oh

Sorry for the lack of updates, you know, I've just been SO busy being a Supermom and all! lol ok, not really. But I am keeping up on my studies well and doing good in school. We've been finding time for family things like playing outside and trips to the library.
My house is still not up to par. Thinking I should make a cleaning schedule...

SuperNOT

We've had a stomach bug and head cold going through the house now. These sicknesses really throw me off my game. My energy is drained and motivation plummets. Last night I was bit by the insomnia bug and was up until 4am. This morning I was exhausted. But I made some green tea, got the little ones dressed, and went out for a hike. They did great and it was so nice to get out, even if it was off and on rainy/drizzly.
I have been catching up on laundry since yesterday, and I will vacuum the house today!
I dropped one of my classes I didn't necessarily need, and it was just taking time away from other fun things (like hiking with the kids). So I have 3 classes until next month, then I have an 8 week computer class. I feel much better about my schedule now.
Ok, better continue the laundry and get some studying done :)

Day 2

My second day of the semester and I am supermomming it up! First, day 1, yesterday was busy! I had classes from 8:30am until 3:45pm and had to run errands afterwards. So when I came home, it was dinner, bath, bed!
Today I had no classes on campus, so I got to be home with my 2 little ones while the big kids were at school.
My studying was pretty effective despite the constant mini breaks to give a hug, clean a mess, entertain, set up a game or tv show, get a snack, pour some milk, etc etc etc.. all the things one has to do while home with 2 little ones.
I finished 2 math homework sections. In class tomorrow I will work on practice problems and then take a quiz when I get home.
I studied and took notes for bio lab and lecture. I still have more to do before the night is over.
When the kids came home I took a mini break then we did homework. I asked my oldest to clean her bird cage. Then we all picked up the toys in the front and back rooms so I could vacuum. I vacuumed the front and back rooms, the hallway, and my bedroom. I did some dishes and laundry as well! It doesn't sound like a whole lot, but with all the studying I did today, I'm surprised I got to ANY housework at all!
I still have to read a chapter for my quiz in Public speaking tomorrow. Finish a chapter in biology. And read a couple pages in my philosophy book. So my studying is not done for the day!
I hoped to get out with the kids and dog for a walk, but it's already getting dark and it's been super cold lately, so maybe tomorrow or Thursday when it warms up!
Dinner will be ready in a little bit, I'm hungry!

Study habits

There is one thing I hope to never feel this semester. Overwhelmed. Planning, prepping, and studying ahead of time is my goal. I typically am pretty good in this area, but towards the end of last semester I had some overwhelming times. This semester I aim to avoid that. I have already completed some assignments for my Biology class that aren't due for two weeks. I got started on my reading for my Philosophy class.
In my last post I shared my veggie prepping; the whole purpose of that is so I have time between 4 and 5 to sit with the kids and help them with their homework, and even some of my own. That is a BIG goal of mine, I really don't want the kids to get behind on their studies because I am too busy with mine to help them. Togetherness and involvement is key!
Tuesdays and Thursdays I will be home, so I plan to do reading assignments with my 4 year old. I am really looking forward to those days being "our days".. myself with my 4 and almost 2 year old. Although I will still have to be disciplined and find time for my own work. I considered making a schedule, and I may still; but for now I plan to go with the flow. I know what needs to get done, and I plan to just get it done! If I find I am not completing my daily tasks, I will enforce a schedule for myself.
Laundry is a big one, I need to be sure I do a load every day. Thankfully my older children are learning to do their own laundry so that helps a lot!
Ok, so I digressed a bit. The point is, I plan to stay ahead in my classes! Studying is a priority and we will see how I do with out a set schedule. My main "planned" event is the kid's homework from 4-5.

Veggie preppin'

I thought of a way to save time when I am cooking dinner. See, in my fantasy world, every day at 4pm the children return home from school, we all sit at the table together and work on homework. In reality, I am usually dinner prepping/cooking around 4pm. To alleviate that, how about prepping all the veggies for the week on the weekend?!
So we did! My awesome husband did most of the work, but I was a great cheerleader! I did wash the apples at least :)
Any veggies that can easily be washed, chopped, and stored, were done so. We obviously don't want to buy ziploc bags every week, so the plan is to get reusable glass storage containers :)
I'll probably wash the potatoes, but not chop them. I love potatoes, no matter how paleo I lean, I will keep potatoes in my life, and some rice (the kids LOVE rice).

In this photo you see the cauliflower rice all ready to go. Two nights of zucchini, two nights of kale, some chopped carrots (we have a few more bags of carrot sticks in the fridge for snacking), a night of broccoli, and some cucumbers sliced up!
I have yams, potatoes, and spaghetti squash that I will have to deal with at mealtimes, but my work load has been greatly reduced! I also plan to do 3 of our meals this week in the crock pot! We shall see how my first week back to school goes!

Introduction

I am not a supermom. Shocker. I know. That won't stop me from trying. Last year I experienced my first semester in college, at 30 years old and with 6 kids. My school life flourished, I made friends and excellent grades. My home life was struggling. My house was a disaster, laundry was always behind, and I wasn't doing a good job keeping up on the kid's homework.
I am determined to have learned from my mistakes and manage my time more wisely. This blog is my journey to be Supermom! To achieve excellent grades, a clean house, well cared for children who also excel in school, and of course be a super wife to my husband!
My semester starts Monday, follow me!
